The IHI Open School is an innovative learning community where you can take free online courses, earn certificates, network with peers and experts, and gain confidence and skills in quality improvement and patient safety to change health care.

If you read our newsletter, you’ve gotten used to seeing a new video in this top spot every week. Well, we’ve been secretly building up to something a little bigger: Today, we are thrilled to announce the new IHI Open School Video Library. With more than 150 titles, the library offers quick instruction on a wide range of health care improvement topics, including quality improvement, patient safety, leadership, person-centered care, and more. Even better? Every video comes with discussion questions, learning objectives, and a facilitator guide so that you can deepen the learning in a group setting. Browse the new video library today and choose a group activity to bring to your classroom or next Chapter meeting. And watch this space for a new featured video each week.
annie_whetzelAnne Whetzel was two months into her second year of medical school when it was her turn to be “pimped” — or, asked questions by her preceptor until she got one wrong. When she later saw a senior physician use the same nerve-wracking teaching method with an elderly patient, she knew how the patient felt, and she wondered about the rationale for such an approach. Thinking back on the experience, Whetzel says, “I want to storm out, to make a scene. I want to tell Dr. Neiland just what’s wrong with this approach to patient education.” Read the rest of her story in Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine.

QSEN_highlightsThe IHI Open School was lucky enough to attend the annual gathering of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses Institute last month. In a new blog post, we’re sharing five highlights from our three days with expert nurse educators in San Diego — including an icebreaker to try in your next meeting and a new way to speak up for safety.
