The IHI Open School is an innovative learning community where you can take free online courses, earn certificates, network with peers and experts, and gain confidence and skills in quality improvement and patient safety to change health care.
For decades, mobile health clinics have been bringing the right care, at the right time, to the right community. Mobile clinics are also starting to demonstrate their ability to reduce costs and improve outcomes in underserved communities by building effective relationships with patients to co-produce better health.
Starting this Thursday, IHI’s Diversity and Inclusion Council, in partnership with mobile clinic leaders, will spotlight the unique contributions of mobile health delivery with atour of clinicsin Boston, New York City, and Washington, DC. Taking place just ahead of IHI’s15th Annual International Summit on Improving Patient Care in the Office Practice and the Community, the tour highlights the innovative approach of using mobile health clinics to help achieve the Triple Aim. One recent highlight comes from Manuel Soria Orozco, a medical student from Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi Mexico, who led a team in reducing the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in an intensive care unit by 10 percent. Orozco and his team attribute a ventilator bundle checklist adapted from IHI as the major turning point in the project’s success.
“Want to drive performance?” asks Hospital Impact blogger Marcelo Zottolo, a Lean transformation specialist with Lee Memorial Health System in southwest Florida. “Stop telling your front-line staff what to do and engage them in daily problem solving,” Zottolo writes. He goes on to describe the tactics Cape Coral Hospital is using to develop a “community of daily problem solvers,” and the significant improvements they’ve already seen. Read the blog post here.
The IHI Open School is seeking the next Regional Leaders for the Southwest and West Coast regions of the United States. Regional Leaders work closely with the IHI Open School team to provide input on programming, localize content, host and plan regional events, and provide assistance to Chapters within their region. The Regional Leader helps create a sense of identity and belonging to the community, and to the mission of the IHI Open School. This role serves as an exciting opportunity for perspective applicants to expand their impact and leadership skills.
Each semester, the IHI Open School team sets aside a small amount of funds to assist Chapters, such as yours, in the important work they’re doing. Share your planned activities and events for the spring semester on this form to be considered for event sponsorship. The deadline to submit your Chapter’s event is today, March 5.
