Dr. Tamika Cross was flying from Detroit to Minneapolis when flight attendants asked if there was a doctor on the plane. Cross, who is black, responded, but the flight attendant wanted to see her credentials first.
“She said to me: ‘Oh no, sweetie put ur hand down; we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel. We don’t have time to talk to you.’” Word of the episode went viral on Facebook and Twitter, where physicians of color and women shared their photos and experiences with the hashtag #WhatDoctorsLookLike.
