Dive into advanced measurement with IHI
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is serious about measurement. We have a number of resources that can help you to strengthen your data collection and analysis strategies.

Attend a Professional Development Program
The Advanced Measurement for Improvement seminar is running March 20–21, 2017, in Boston, MA. Over two days, you'll go beyond mere data collection to using your data to drive improvement. IHI experts will help you develop and apply practical measurement and analysis plans to monitor system performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and determine whether improvement efforts are working.

Read a Measurement Faculty Blog Post
Expert faculty member Richard Scoville, PhD, describes why good measurement is vital for improvement in this informative blog post. "An improvement journey typically begins when a gap has been identified between the outcomes produced by a health care system and those that matter to patients, payers, and other stakeholders. A measurement for improvement approach can help reveal the nature of this gap, and bring people together to identify opportunities for improvement and develop a common plan."  Read more here.

Review Measures from Other Organizations' Improvement Initiatives
On our Measures Resource page, you'll see how others have plotted data over time to track the improvement of Adverse Drug Events per 1,000 Doses; Cost per Surgery; Incidence of Severe Hypoglycemic Episodes; and many other examples.
